Bike trip: Škofja Loka and the old military road

Škofja Loka and its surrounding hills are the perfect place to make exceptional memories. The little town with its varied surroundings is so close to Ljubljana, yet it still feels far away. With its remarkable cultural heritage backdrop it is caught in a medieval spirit, and its colourful buildings hold countless stories. The town is just the starting point for discovering hidden corners, old customs, warm-hearted people and culinary experiences in the Škofja Loka Hills. Cycling through the rolling landscape adds a very special dimension to experiencing the stories and moments of remote villages and rustling forests.

Programme:

10.30 – Start: We meet at the agreed location in Škofja Loka and get ready for the bike trip.

11.00 – Tour start: We begin with an easy ride along the old military road through pleasant villages of the Škofja Loka Hills up to the highest point of the tour, the hut below Blegoš. The hut is truly lovely and the mountain air fills you with new energy, so we take a longer break before descending into the valley.

If we still have the will and energy, we can walk to the summit and enjoy a wonderful view of the Škofja Loka Hills, the Julian and Kamnik–Savinja Alps and the Karawanks. If the weather is kind enough, we may even see the Adriatic Sea. Then comes a long, panoramic descent into the Poljane Valley.

16.30 – Tour end: We finish the bike trip with a visit to Škofja Loka Castle and, if you wish, refreshments in one of Škofja Loka's restaurants.

18.00 – Finish: The full-day trip ends in Škofja Loka at our starting point.
